Example: A Year 9 technology teacher has 12 students across 4 roles — 3 Leaders, 3 Designers, 3 Builders, and 3 Testers. She needs 3 project teams of 4, each with one of every role, while honouring a few student preferences for who they work best with.
We've pre-loaded 12 students across 4 role categories — hit the Generate Groups button (bottom right) to try it. In the dialog, add 1 Leader + 1 Designer + 1 Builder + 1 Tester category entry per team (3 teams of 4). Some preferences are pre-loaded to show how the algorithm balances roles and friendships simultaneously.
Setting one of each role per team ensures no team is unbalanced — Leaders don't cluster together, and neither do Builders. Student preferences layer on top of the role constraint, so the algorithm finds the arrangement that satisfies the most requests while keeping every team balanced.
