Example: A Year 8 science teacher runs jigsaw learning with 12 students — 6 tagged Home, 6 tagged Expert. She generates 3 groups of 4 with 2 Home + 2 Expert per group for the first round. For the expert phase, she generates again — the pairing history ensures students aren't sitting with the same peers in both rounds.
We've pre-loaded 12 students split into Home and Expert roles — hit the Generate Groups button (bottom right) to try it. In the dialog, add 2 Home + 2 Expert category entry per group (3 groups of 4). After the home round, hit Generate Groups again to see the differentiated expert grouping.
The jigsaw method assigns students to home groups first, then regroups them into expert groups where each person brings different knowledge. Running Clever Groups twice with the same class uses the pairing penalty to produce naturally differentiated second-round groups — without manual reshuffling.
